Size matters! or to be more precise, format (i.e. the ratio of width to height) matters. If a print is to be framed for exhibition or mounted for competition entry, a ratio of 10:1 is not very satisfactory. In fact, unless a print can be made several feet wide, a ratio of about 3:1 or 4:1 is best. The stitched panorama above has a format almost exactly 17:6, the same as that of several of the special panoramic cameras.

The following Technical Notes should prove a useful introduction to stitched panoramas.

1. Shooting panoramas - an introduction

2. Does the nodal point of the lens really have to be on the axis of rotation?

3. Simple panoramic head to put the nodal point on the axis of rotation

4. Simple clinometer to measure pitch angle in panorama shots

5. Stitching panoramas
